La causa puede ser adulterio, abuso (f\u00edsico, emocional o psicol\u00f3gico), abuso de sustancias, impotencia o encarcelamiento. El c\u00f3nyugue transgresor deber\u00e1 responder al divorcio mediante la disputa, afirmaci\u00f3n o defensa de las bases del divorcio. Sin embargo, algunos estados han optado por permitir motivos de \u201cmutuo acuerdo\u201d para el divorcio, con el fin de evitar que dichos negocios privados se vuelvan a poner en pr\u00e1ctica en la sala del tribunal (donde puede convertirse en un registro p\u00fablico). Un divorcio de \u201cmutuo acuerdo\u201d significa que el c\u00f3nyugue que introduce el divorcio no tiene que dar una raz\u00f3n del porqu\u00e9 quiere divorciarse, simplemente no desea estar m\u00e1s casado. Los t\u00e9rminos legales asociados con un divorcio de \u201cmutuo acuerdo\u201d son usualmente \u201cuna ruptura irremediable\u201d, \u201cdiferencias irreconciliables\u201d o \u201cseparaci\u00f3n irreparable del matrimonio\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Florida es un estado de divorcio de mutuo acuerdo y usa el t\u00e9rmino \u201cruptura irremediable\u201d al momento de introducirlo. Al optar ser un estado de mutuo acuerdo, Florida evita revivir emociones dolorosas o vergonzosas que son producidas por adulterio, abandono conyugal o si un conyugue va a prisi\u00f3n. Aunque Florida puede ser un estado de mutuo acuerdo, la \u201cculpa\u201d a\u00fan puede ser usada en otros aspectos del divorcio como la custodia de los hijos, la divisi\u00f3n de propiedades, o la pensi\u00f3n conyugal.
